Airport and Recommendations

Hi, We will be travelling to Marrakech next week for a few days and I wanted to ask a couple of questions. For anyone who has travelled out of the airport recently, what are the queues like? Is 2 hours before enough time for check in and security or is longer needed?
We are staying in Medina, If anyone has any recommendations for mid range restaurants nearby that would be great. Thanks in advance

"what are the queues like?"
I was in the luggage area just as the luggage started to come, so not a long wait. Remember you must line up for immigration, luggage, customs then finally line up to get your things X-rayed.
"Is 2 hours before enough time for check in and security or is longer needed?"
Where are you flying from? on what airline? You are talking about when you go home.
I would err to caution as all passengers (including those with no checked in luggage, no carry on, even those with just the clothing on their backs) need to line up in the check in line to get their paper boarding pass stamped (ones on your tablet and phone can not be used to get past security as you must show them a stamped paper boarding pass). The later you get there the longer you have to wait in line. next the security lane, then a long line at immigration, Finally customs and another passport check then your walk to your gate. Marrakech is now a decent sized airport so the amount of waiting could depend a lot on the airline and how many flights are leaving in close proximity.
"We are staying in Medina"
The medina is huge and mostly a pedestrian only area. So where you are , would make a difference where you wanted to eat. It could be 30 minutes walk from place to place ... hours if you get lost. Do you know how you would get from the airport to your riad. A taxi would have no clue where your riad is unless it is in the very outer edges , just outside the pedestrian only area. It is easy to get frustratingly lost.
For many of the better places you really need to get a reservation in advance as they book up. Some of the best restaurants are in the Gueliz and Hivernage areas. It is a cheap taxi there (20 DH or 2 Euro or less). These are new and more European looking areas.
Hope this helps

I'm not the OP but I must compliment comicman on the detail and useful knowledge in his above post. Unfortunately I've only been to Morocco once and that was on a day tour by ferry from Spain to Tangier so not representative at all. The tour got much better when we broke away from the group and explored on our own.

Thank you very much Basing.
I am still hoping the OP comes back to answer my questions as it will make a lot of difference as to my answers.
I hope you get the time to visit again, this time for a longer time.
When were you in Tangier?
Tangier has changed a lot from the bad old days and is not clean and mostly hassle free.

Desert Tour

Thanks for your help. We have actually booked a trip that ended in Tangier with Sahara Magic Tours, a travel company that is recommended by a friend of us and we are looking forward to our 7 days trip with them. We will be visiting the desert, Fes, bleu city and Tangier ( we will be spending there 2 days before leaving to Spain by ferry ). Could you let us know what are things Tangier is known for ?

"We will be visiting the desert,"
Desert , yes ... Spectacular , yes ... But it is not the Sahara nor even with in hundreds of kilometers from the Sahara.
By blue city , you mean Chefchaouen? or did you mean Rabat? Both have a small area of streets with blue painted walls.
"Could you let us know what are things Tangier is known for ?"
It is a nice vibrant city and unlike the past it is now mostly hassle free. Make sure to see the Medina (Grand Socco to the Petite Socco then to the port. The kasbah and city walls, the old Jewish synagogue is pretty amazing. The Caves of Hercules outside of town. There is a HoHo bus you can use to get close to a lot of the sites. Good night life in the new towns , with some nice bars and tapas.
I hope you invested in a guidebook. It helps a LOT. Know a lot of what guide say can be fiction rather then fact. But a good story can make the visit.
NEVER buy any goods with your guide or driver in tow. For regular goods it will add 50 to 200% to your costs and for rugs and carpets it could add 1000 % mark ups. Your guide gets a 50% or more cut, so the shops have to add this to your bill. Better you get your things and souvenirs when alone. Getting Argon oil (both for eating and cosmetic) and spices , you will get the best quality and pricing at the Marjane or Carrefour supermarkets. Never get it in the co-ops (they are fake) as you get overpriced and adulterated products. There will be many forced shopping experiences wrapped up in a cultural experience. These are all aimed at tourists , even if you do not see another tourist. Nothing at them are going to be a bargain or even a good product. When your guide or driver tells you to let him help as he will get you the "Moroccan prices", this really beans he will make sure he gets as much for his cut as he can. Even the best guides and drivers do this as it is the Moroccan way. Just go into it educated.
For tangier, you can get some good seafood and international fare. I recommend staying in the new town. Somewhere near and including the Hotel Rembrandt
Any other questions , just ask.

I would add I hope you are doing 4 days from Marrakech to Fes. AS with the 3 day trip you barely get to see the big dunes for more then an hour or 2 in daylight. And the drive from Merzuga to Fes is an all day drive.
I hope you will stop to see Volubilis and the wild Barbary apes (near Meknes and Fes) and Mouley Idress and Ifraine.
If you have the 3 day trip and can add a day it would be a big advantage to do so.

Thanks for the tips. We are more focused on culture, history but not shopping and we have mentioned that to our company. The bleu city I meant Chefchaouen.

We have discussed several trips with the company and we ended up with 7 days trip from marrakech to Tangier that we like more as it combines all the sites you mentioned plus chefchaouen
