African safari question
We are considering taking a safari in 2008, but I am terrified of snakes. Will I encounter them at the lodges/tented camps or during the day trips? Is it rare or are they all over the place? Please help me.

... believe me, snakes are terrified of you. They don't want to make human contact any more than you want snake contact. Are there snakes? Sure? Will you run into any? Maybe! Generally, it's rare to find snakes in your lodges/tents (unless your name is ...... I won't mention, to protect the one avid safari goer with whom those in know, prefer not to travel with
The only snakes I've seen in 13/years - 1 dead green mamba, 1 small garter snake.

I have looked high and low for snakes and have (mostly) been disappointed. I want to see more snakes. But not in my tent!
Where are you considering going? Maybe there are more-snake less-snake areas?

They are definitely NOT all over the place. Going in the dry season (June-Oct) even further reduces the odds that you'll see one. I like snakes and rarely catch a glimpse of one. About like at home.
Don't worry one bit about snakes and start your planning!

Snakes don't bother me but DH has a real problem with them. I just laughed when one of the quotes I got back from an operator had us overnighting at Meserani Snake park camp. No way in heck would DH ever stay there... regardless of whether there were snakes there or not!
