A book set in Africa

The (probably) few Fodorites who read Italian might keep an eye out for a novel set in Cameroon that's coming out in a few months. It's a romance which has village people caught in conflict between guerillas and militia. The cover photo is mine:

To have a 'safari pic' chosen for a piece of modern African literature is probably more pleasing than any other sale that I've had the good fortune to make.

Congratulations on a beautiful cover. Any plans for an English edition?
I would be interested in how your opportunity to have the picture become a cover emerged.

John,

Congratulations.

I, too, have the same questions as Eric. How did the opportunity come about? Will there be an English edition? I would imagine that many of us are voracious readers of all things Africa.

Congratulations John! Outstanding photo, no wonder they picked it. Yes, push for an English version.

Thanks, everyone.

It's a small Italian publishing house which specialises in African literature, and I don't think they publish in English...but possibly another publisher will pick it up (and use a different cover ). Depends how popular it is, I guess.

The publisher found the photo in a stock library which I contribute to. People who want to buy photos either file a specific request, to which the member-photographers respond, or search the data base until they find what they want. I was lucky enough for the latter to happen, and as I suggested, it is probably the most pleasing sale I've made because of what the pic is being used for. I guess I would have been just as happy if it was for a giant advertising billboard somewhere ...except that wouldn't last as long as a book.

How wonderful. Congratulations--it's a beautiful picture. I wish I could read Italian.

Was it taken in Botswana?

Thanks again for those who've posted since my last thank you. But apologies also: my website has been down for some hours now, so the image cannot be viewed. I hope it's only a temporary thing but fear the worse and am already thinking of re-creating my website elsewhere. I have no patience with unreliable service.

John,

I'm sure they should be able to fix it....sometimes there is some temporary server issues?

Hari,

This is the longest interruption I've ever experienced, and frankly, it smells.

Interest in this thread has probably expired but I thought I should let people know the site is being restored and the image is again visible.

I received my copy of the book from the Italian publisher today...it reveals that the story was first published in French as L’Intérieur de la nuit a couple of years ago. So, if you read French....

Thanks judochop. It was certainly very pleasing, but I'd like to know if anybody on the forum has read the French edition of the book (published by PLON). We have some French speakers, and many avid readers of books about Africa, fact and fiction...so maybe somebody here knows the story. The author is a well-regarded novelist.

My French is rusty and I'm always looking for the right motivation to bone-up -- this book looks like a winner!!! I'll see if the French Library has a copy. Only negative is that the French edition doesn't have your lovely cover.
