i'll contact stanley's and ask whether the guides know something about this family especially because the mother was also quite slim and she was so reluctant to let them suckle...
i'll post as soon as i here something.
have a wonderful week!

dear nancie,
i have got news from stanley's/baines - but it's not good at all.......
**********
Two weeks ago, the mother left her 3 cubs hidden away in the thicket (one injured on one leg) and went away, presumably hunting.
Guests came across a pride of 8 lionesses feeding on a monkey, who had no idea 3 cubs were hidden a few meters from the lionesses. Cubs must have watched hungrily as the lionesses were feeding because after the lionesses were through, 3 cubs emerged from the nearby bushes to look for some left overs.
When the lionesses saw the cubs, they immediately went on the attacking mood. Two cubs managed to get away to safety, and the one limping couldn’t get away on time. Guests watched this gruesome wild experience as the 8 lionesses ripped the cub to pieces.
I remember now that guests and guides came back from the drive that day very very sad from the incident.
No, sadly the cub is not alive….

Div,
That is heartbreaking. He was such a little trouper. The poor little guy. It happened when you were still there or just two weeks ago?
thanks for the update. I am going to make his picture my screensaver as a little tribute to his courage.
thanks

it's sad you don't have a contact button on your site

Hmmm... weird. Sorry about that. I was working on updating something and there now seems to be something case sensitive interfering. I just copied this out of the browser and tested it so it should work...

I know this is the Africa forum, but there was a bear in my yard, and I got his picture (sort of)...
