I'm looking for an easy weekend beach getaway to Delaware and was wondering what the beaches are like between mid-Delaware and Rehoboth? Are they nice or not, and I assume less crowded than Rehoboth? I can only get a room for one night in Milford, anyway, at a typical chain hotel, which is okay with me, and I noticed on the map that there are several beaches between it and Rehoboth and wondered what they were like -- Slaughter Beach, Primehook Beach and Broadkill Beach? I can't find anything out about them, even in guidebooks to Delaware beaches.

Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes is the best area north of Rehoboth. Lewes has a small beach, but the sand is not as nice as the State Park. The beaches you listed are more in the area as to where the DE River meets the Bay. Good for fishing, not for beach.

Agree with bdawk that Lewes is as far North to have nice beach and ocean waves. I will also add to get to the beach early if its a hot summer weekend. A couple of Saturdays ago we got to Cape Henlopen State Park at noon only to find it already full.

Milford is still a good 25 miles to Rehoboth, and traffic on Route 1 Saturdays is brutal. That's the day all the rental properties turn over. Milton is closer if you have that option.

oh, thanks, that's more than I knew, anyway. I checked everywhere for hotels, they are all booked up for next weekend, except some chain hotels about 25-30 miles away. I don't think anything is in Milton, but the alternative was Seaford which is even farther than Milford. I don't think 25 miles is that bad, I drive that to work every day in Wash DC. I mean, I'd like to stay in Rehoboth or something, but there wasn't anything available and they all had two-day minimums. I think Milford was a better option than Seaford, what do you think. It's a few miles closer and on a bigger road, it appears.

If you are coming from DC, Milford will be a better option as Seaford is further west and getting from there to beaches could be a very timely adventure. Not that the trip down from Milford won't be busy, but at least it is 4 lanes.

thanks, that's what I was thinking, plus I think the hotel I found sounded like a better deal anyway. Now I have to decide if I want to do it, as I'd be coming from DC in the morning, so wouldn't get there until almost noon, unless I leave real early.
