Please Help in Dubai Hotel Choices!

I'm looking to book a 2 night stay in Dubai (early March) and dont know where to start as far as location!

I'm actually booking the hotel for someone else - so if anyone has suggestions of hotels (maybe 200-300 a night range?) that would be in a good location for someone who is young, single, and fun...I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks so much!!!

this is what Michael (thit-cho) had to say on my question on Dubai.

Dennis, you can see a lot in Dubai in 28 hours. My recommendation would be to stay in Deiar Dubai, the old section, which has affordable hotels, and you can walk to the creek, the souks, museum (which you can see in 30 minutes) and Bastakia (old quarter). Personally, I wouln't stay in Jumeirah -- isolated and sterile and you can't walk anywhere. If you want to see Jumeirah, head there for a drink at night (you can make a reservation for drinks at Burj al Arab, and have a camel mojito in the SkyBar)."

Hope this helps.

Dennis, that was a recommendation for someone who I perceived to be interested in local culture and Arab flavor (an anti-globalization sort fo experience). It wouldn't necessarily be the best place for someone looking to party all night since the clubs are in Jumeirah and other places away from Deira. I'm only 42, but I didn't feel compelled to spend anytime at the clubs and I was usually asleep by 10:00 and up by 6:00, so Deira was perfect for me.

sorry Michael, what you suggested for me will be perfect, but you're right, not necessarily for the young, single and fun...(though I fit 2 out of the 3 categories!)

Tripadvisor.com has a very active Dubai forum with lots of hotel advice-I did a lot of research there before deciding on our stopover hotel in Dubai.

I m 31 and would only stay in Jumeirah. You can always go to see the citycenter, take a watertaxi on the creek, walk around, but the nightlife is much better in the hotels around Jumeirah. Besides the beach is lovely. If you want to stay in between those two you might consider the emirates tower or the Rotana tower to stay in. My vote goes for Jumeirah, and than preferably the Madinat Dar al Masyaf villas. Good luck

Thanks for everyone's advice! I think a good answer would be to stay in a location with the nightlife (Jumeirah sounds like a winner) as long as it is still possible to get around during the day to check out the local culture (assuming that the "cultural areas" arent too far away from the nightlife? I've been reading that Dubai isn't very large, but that traffic can be a bit of a hassle. And again, thanks for your help!
