30th Anniversary Island Vacation

Looking for suggestions for a great 30th anniversary surprise for my wife. A one-week stay at a single place for a reasonable price. Sounds a lot like St. Johns from what I have read on this board, but open to anything. Any suggestions? Our 30th anniversary and the trip would be Jun 30, 2003. TKS in advance to all you savvy travelers.
June can be pretty rainy in the Carribean--if you want to be SURE of good weather, look at Aruba. Gorgeous beaches, outside the hurricane zone, great and not too pricey restaurants, interesting culture, excellent shops for any budget, truly international vacationer population, gambling, and the best prices on jewelery ANYWHERE (get her a nice gift on the island--?) It IS a desert island but lots of greenery in town , hotel zones, etc.

My husband and I went to Aruba for 10yr anniversary! We were very disappointed. We did not care for the desert-like island. We honeymooned in Grand Cayman and loved 7 mile beach. Aruba's beaches were not near as beautiful. Some people love Aruba, but it is definately not for everyone!! Just my opinion!! We're looking in to going to St.John which I hear is wonderful! Good luck wherever you decide to go!
We go to the Caribbean every year in June and the most rain we have had was one morning for about an hour. I agree with Ellen. We were also disappointed in Aruba. I have heard that St. John is fabulous as well as the BVI's and Turks and Caicos. I would also recommend Anguilla or St. Barts. You can rent a private villa very inexpensively in St. Barts. There are also reasonbly priced hotels in Anguilla. Good luck!

Do check out the United States Virgin Islands at usvi-on-line.com for a plethora of information on the islands which offer great diversity and pretty much something for everyone - plus the advantage for Americans of being a US Territory. St. Thomas is volcanic and is the "hub" with plenty of hotels in all categories and with easy ferry access to St. John, St. Croix and the neighboring British Virgin Islands. St. John (not St. Johns!) is much quieter but idyllically beautiful and where many St. Thomas residents go for a day or two or three for some quiet relaxation. St. Croix is much flatter (coral formation as opposed to volcanic) but has much to offer.
All have beautiful beaches and beautiful weather. Check us out! Have a wonderful anniversary trip wherever you decide to go - for you still to be together after 30 years is wonderful in itself and to think of creating such a wonderful surprise for your wife is simply lovely!

Congrats! 30 years! 25 for us next year!

I would say that the BEST place to go in June would be Bermuda. Bermuda is very warm in June, avg. 85 degrees. The Fairmount Southampton has a 7 nite Romance Package that is wonderful and includes a lot (except air). The Fairmount Hamilton Princess has the same package, and the rooms' views here are even better. The Ariel Sands Resort was just redecorated in 2002 by interior decorators, and is now offering special packages at their resort that include spa treatments as well. I'd check out the above via their websites and see what you / your wife would like.

If you want the USVI, I recommend the Frenchman's Reef, only stay at the Morningstar Resort, which are 2/3 story bldgs right on the beach. We love it there, and that's off-season for them so the rates will be better than from Jan-March. Check out the Frenchman's Reef website via Marriot.com. Then, take a water taxi shuttle, go to Raadets Gade (a street in Charlotte Amalie) and get your bride an anniversary piece of jewelry at one of the small shops who offer better prices than the highly advertised shops around town. Continental Cool Vacations can provide a land/air pkg too, as well as AA Getaways.

Hope the above helps, and have a great time!
My husband and I took our first vacation to St. Barth's this year. If I was to receive a surprise 30th anniversary trip, that's where I would want it to be! Low season rates in June and a private villa with pool, etc. Can't say enough about it for privacy, weather, friendliness and excellent food. Check out www.stbarth.com for some wonderful bargains and terrific service. Have a wonderful anniversary!

Dear Ron,
If you haven't decided where to go yet our family has a beautiful spacious condo on the quiet northeastern end in a private cove of St. Thomas VI. You have the ferry 3 miles away that you could go to the BVI and St. Johns for a special trip. We rent it out to family and friends... very very reasonable. You won't be dissapointed. If you would like more information please just let me know.
Sincerely,
Lisa Gerten

This man asked for places to go and suggestions....not an advertisement for your family's condo. Quit trying to drum up business on these boards as you've been told before!

Mr. Puhleeze (how novel!):
I don't think Ron would be offended at people suggesting places for him to go. If he's celebrating his 30 year wedding anniversary and posts such a nice question, I'm sure he's quite capable of sifting through the responses and checking out those who are suggesting their own places either via e-mail or through their websites and can come to a decision.
I'm not quite sure why you have a problem with this or why you should seem to be so irate.
Ron - check out all the info you've been given and forgive idiot replies!
Cheers, dear!

HI,

St. John is my favorite place. however, not sure what you consider reasonable. We have stayed at Caneel; and if it is beach/snorkeling that you want, it doesn't get much better than that.

I am also a big fan of Bermuda. And the weather in late june/early July is great. There are several nice properties; and the rates vary.

Bermuda also offers more activities, if it is not just beach that interests you.

Happy Anniversary,

Congratulations on your 30th anniversary! My husband and I honeymooned in St. John, where we stayed at the Westin. We liked the island (if you go, eat at the Lime Inn one night), but Anguilla has become our favorite. The beaches in Anguilla are exquisite, and there is very little nightlife. We stayed at the Carimar Beach Club, which is right on Meads Bay. Much less expensive than some of the other hotels on the island. An extremely romantic anniversary dinner can be planned at Altamer's. The landscape in Aruba in a bit too desolate for our taste, but there are some wonderful restaurants and more nightlife than Anguilla. If you can stretch out the surprise for 10 days, I would recommend Cat Island in the Bahamas. No big hotels, no traffic, the island only got electricity five or six years ago, and the locals are extremely friendly. Or to really get away from everything and everybody, look at Anegada, northernmost of the BVI's. No televisions, no telephones, just lots and lots of beaches. We found a beach where we were the only people on it for six hours a day, three days in a row. Now that's romantic! Good luck in your search and what a wonderful anniversary gift your wife will be getting!!!

Hi Ron,

I love the Caribbean but would be worried about going in June. Have you thought about Hawaii? The weather is perfect there that time of year.

Another Caribbean suggestion would be Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda - definitely romantic!
