Planning to Visit Munich, Germany and Italy
Hello,
My family and I will be visiting Munich, Venice and maybe Florence this July. We are flying into Munich and plan to stay there for 3 days and then take train to Venice. My original plan was to do 3 days in Venice as well before returning to Munich for our departing flight. I will be traveling with my husband, mother-in-law and two sons (10 and 15). They would really like to go from Munich to Venice to Florence and Rome. We only have seven days to travel. Can someone recommend 1. The number of days I should spend in each city , 2. If we are not able to do all three cities in Italy, what is my best option, 3. What is the best way to travel? Our plan was to take the train to Venice and fly from whatever city becomes our final stop in Italy. This is our first trip, so any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you.

Munich --> Venice - 6+ hours
Venice --> Florence - 2 hours
Florence --> Rome - 2 hours
Rome --> Munich - 8+ hours
These are approximate rail times.
For only 7 days, I'd stick to your original plan of Munich and Venice only. If you only include travel time to/from Venice, you'll be down to just a little over 5 days for any touristing between Munich and Venice anyway.
But if you really are okay with just a day or so in a place, you could probably sneak a peak into Florence for a day. Too fast-paced for me, but to say you've "been there, seen David," well, maybe that's what you'd like.
Rome is waaaay too far for that short of a trip, IMHO.
Happy travels!

In 7 days, I would not go to Venice, but stay in Munich and do a couple side trips to places like Garmisch, Salzburg, Regensburg and Bamberg. We went from Munich to VEnice and it's a long trip. UNLESS, you plan to fly out of Venice, then it makes sense - do an overnight train from Salzburg
Day 1-2: Munich
Day 3-4: Bavarian Alps
Day 5: Salzburg - overnight train to Venice
Day 6-7: Venice
It's rushed, but doable.

We just did a similar trip a few months ago. Munich, Salzburg, Venice and on to some other places - but we had over 2 weeks. At the most, I'd do Munich, Salzburg then Venice only. We had 2 days in Munich - it wasn't enough. We had 3 days in Venice - way too short. It's tough when time is tight. Or follow Logos' advice and fly to maximize your time in each city.

I have a question this is our first trip to Europe part of which is business related. We have no idea how long to stay in the different countries.
We must be in Prague on Saturday the June 9th, 10th at the latest. We will leave there on Wednesday to travel to Slovakia for more business We can leave Slovakia on Saturday morning the 16th of June.
We were thinking of leaving the US and fly to Venice on June 5th.....leave Venice and go to Prague on the 9th. We then have business ending in Slovakia on June 16th in the morning. We were then thinking of going to Vienna on the 16th.
Not sure how many days we should stay in Vienna - we need to be home on Saturday the 23rd. Is there time to go to Munich and fly home from there? Is this squeezing in too much?
SO to recap
Venice 6th to 9th or could be 10th
Prague and SLovakia for business 11th thru 15th
Vienna on 16th - to ?
Try to add on Munich - need to be back to US on the 23rd
