Apartment Montreux area
Travelling end of April 2018 with public transport only. Have thoroughly researched and come up with acceptable apts as follows:
1) La Tour de Peilz= "15 minutes walk uphill from train station"- Official listing/provides Montreux Travel Card..................Anyone that can comment on this town/area?
2) Corseaux - It seems that one must take the Vevey Funicular (direction: Mont Pelerin to reach the apt. ..... This listing does NOT provide the transit card, sooo... since we will be taking daily trips in the area, how expensive/much inconvenience is the funicular to return home every night?
3) Montreux/Chernex- 3 minutes to Chernex Train station, "quiet mountain-side location".....Anyone familiar with this suburb?
4 )Chernex -Apt, balcony with beautiful views- ditto to this town- restaurants, grocery store, bank/ATM, etc?
5) Villeneuve- 600 m to train station- Comments on this town?
6) Blonay - "at top of a hill" and "car would be useful"--this official listing offers the transit card-Comments on town?
7) Etoy/Buchillon - "Luxurious cottage with balcony in a calm village"- near Denners, so supermarket should be covered...comments on town/area?
Mostly we are looking for ease of transport, a town with a couple restaurant choices, a bank/ATM, grocery store BONUS cute or quaint for exploring in the evenings.
I have listed the APARTMENTS in descending order of preference...
Thank You!

Places with beautiful views out in the country aren't going to be great places for a tourist to stay, especially without a car. Chernex is just a very small village a couple miles or so from Montreux. I don't think it has anything but a couple bars and a pizzeria, a pharmacie, a small grocer, a boulangerie/tea room and one restaurant. To get anywhere, I think you have to take the train to/from Montreux train station, then take transport from there. I don't think it has a supermarket or ATM. You don't You won't be able to do antying there anyway, so you can easily find ATMs when you do go somewhere else.

This article sums it up, it says it has a superette in addition to the epicerie. Mendelssohn stayed there once, that's interesting.

swandav or Ingo?
Hoping you catch this thread!
I guess if transport issues were equal, would someone that knows the region well, prefer to stay in Montreux, Corseaux, Chernex, Etoy/Buchillon or Villeneuve, AND WHY would they prefer it?
Thanks!

Hi mokka4!!
So happy you get to be in/around Montreux this spring. I opted to go to Paris this winter instead of Montreux, and I am kicking myself ..... I miss it so! I envy you!
Anywayanyway. I think I spoke about the transport issues with La Tour-de-Peilz, Corseaux, and Chernex, that both of them require funicular/bus to reach because they're up on the hillside. I think I also told you about some friends of mine who love staying in Chernex ... but they are Swiss and drive their own car, so it's fine for them. I do like the town of La Tour, and there is a big grocery store in town ... but I really would NOT like the 15-minute walk uphill.
I have to say that I adore Villeneuve, just adore it. It's right at the lake. I spent a week there once at a wonderful 4-star that has since been turned into apartments (which appear on homeaway for over 1,000chf per night ....). It's a small town with a sweet main street and a lovely old church. The main street is away (perpendicular) from the lake, so the town has two distinct personalities: tourists congregate at the lake and the lakefront restaurants, while residents populate the main street. The lakeside is very sweet, with a (fenced/paying) swimming pool area, then the former hotel, and a newly-cobbled walkway next to the beach. The beach is always hopping, with dogs & swimmers, etc. The town has a big Coop, forming a triangle with the bus stop, the start of the main street, and access to the lake. Take a look at google maps to see it.
I also love the walk from Chillon to Villeneuve, very peaceful, green, beautiful. The walk to/from Montreux takes about 1h30, with Chillon about mid-point. Of course, bus #201 covers the entire route.
Anyway, it's too bad that the Villeneuvue apartment is apparently not one of your favorites .... darn. Well, I'll take a look through homeaway and montreux.ch later today, and I'll see if I can come up with a few more options. I guess you're looking for a 2-bedroom, is that right? And what is your price preference?? I know you don't really need any MORE options to muddy the waters ... but I just dislike these locations.
Anyway --
Hope you're having fun putting it together!

Hi again,
Well, I wasn't wonderfully successful. My personal repertoire of favorite Montreux apartments are all studios or 1-bedroom. But I did find 3 possibilities --
This first one is in Villeneuve, right on the lake. It is a 2br, it is available for the dates 21-28 April, and the rates are listed in dollars as $179/night.

The second one is in Glion, above Montreux; it is an apartment in the upper floor of the train station at Glion. The funicular leaves every 15 minutes to connect you to Territet, where you can walk or take the bus to Villeneuve, Montreux, or Vevey. Or you can take the train directly to Montreux; I think it leaves every hour or half hour. I've stayed in Glion 2 or 3 times. Views are astounding.
I checked for the dates 21-28 April, and it was available at a total cost of 1,014€.

The third one is in La Tour-de-Peilz. There is a lovely house right on the lake that houses two studio apartments. You maybe could rent both of the apartments; I think the rental would be around 700 chf for one week.

Anyway -- best of luck!!

Ok, so after a hard "elimination round", my top 4 choices are:
1) Corseaux-described as "5 minutes walk to Nestle", but must take Vevey Funucular 'home' each night.
2) Montreux/Chernex- "3 minutes walk to Chernex rail station" & "quiet lower-mountain-side position".
3) Chernex - 2 mins walk to Chernex rail station
4) Etoy/Buchillon - "newly renovated and lux cottage in a calm village, 6-8 minutes walk to Etoy train station"
All 4 have a balcony or terrace, have either 2 bedrooms or 1BR + Schlafcouch and are max $1000/7 nights.
Any comment on Etoy or cost/location of Vevey funi?

I don't see a problem with the funiculaire Vevey - Corseaux. Takes only two minutes to Corseaux, runs every 20 minutes till midnight. Schedules here (page 15):
http://www.mob.ch/assets/media/cms/i...aires_2017.pdf
It's 3 or 4 CHF per ride if I recall correctly. Half Fare Card valid. Free with Montreux Riviera Card.
No idea on Etoy, sorry.

Are there no apartments actually IN town in either Montreux or Vevey proper?
None of what you are looking at sounds particularly convenient for trying to get around without your own transportation?
I am fortunate to have friends in both towns (been 5x) and they live 5 mins. walk from the train station in either place. A 5 min. walk to the lakeside quai in the other direction.

Montreux 'suburb' of Chernex won!
I learned that the Vevey Funucular is 1.3 miles from the train station, so THAT automatically added a bus or a long walk each night to the Funi, after all day sightseeing to get 'home.'
But last night TWO new AirBnB apts were added- one of which is directly in the old town!
Ah well, stop looking!
