Vaud, in the Spring
Trying to find a modest apartment in Vevey for one week to explore this area new to me (April end-early May 2018). Traveling by train, so no secluded farmhouses on hillsides.
Getting a lot of 'hits' for the town(s) of La Tour-de-Peilz, Chardonne and Corseaux on Airbnb. Anyone with firsthand knowledge of these hamlets?
Pretty? Well-connected to public transport?
We will spend a week here doing little day trips in the region,
before moving for 2 nights to the Berner Oberland for a quick mountain refresher for my friend.
(No help needed on THAT end as it will be my umpteenth time. Just changing scenery for my travelmate).

Hi mokka4,
Ok, wow, I was wondering where you found a lovely little village called Baud in CH!! lol!
Ok, yes I am familiar with those villages. The best imo is La Tour-de-Peilz, which is just a suburb of Vevey. You will not be able to tell where La Tour ends & Vevey begins. When I stay in Montreux, I frequently take the bus to the edge of La Tour and then walk to Vevey along the lake, and that takes maybe 15 minutes. Of course, there are many, many bus stops in La Tour, so you can find one that is closest to your apartment. La Tour is connected by bus #201 to the rest of Vevey, and to Montreux, and to Villeneuve. Your hosts will give you a Riviera Card that makes all bus, train, & funicalars free in the area between Vevey & Villeneuve.
Chardonne is up in the vineyards above Vevey -- I've had friends stay in a sweet apartment up there, but they had a car. It would be a long walk (maybe 45 minutes) uphill to get there from Vevey, or you can take the funicalar, or you can take bus #213. Transport time from Vevey is about 11 minutes by bus.
Corseaux is also above Vevey, not quite as far as Chardonne is. I've only been there one time, but I remember walking up, maybe about 10 minutes. According to SBB, it takes about 15 minutes to get transport there, using a funicular and/or a bus.
I think the town that is up highest would give you the prettiest views, but the tradeoff would be the difficulty to get there. I personally need (yup, I chose the right word) to have a lakeview room.
You've probably already done this, but I always recommend folks take a look at google maps to locate these smaller towns & villages. And also check transport with SBB.
If you'd like a recommendation, you could also consider Chexbres, which is in the vineyards but also on the main train line between Lausanne & Vevey, or Lutry, also on the main train line.
You've probably seen me posting these up-teem times, but I'll post them again here just in case you haven't. I spend a lot of time in Montreux (boarding school there in 1968, and upteem repeat visits), and these are my favorite things to do there & from there:

Oh dear. Error! Error!
Chexbres is NOT on the main train line along the lake. I always walk from Chexbres down to Rivaz, and it is Rivaz that is on that train line.
Chexbres is connected by rail to Vevey, but it is on the line to Puidoux.
So sorry!
