Advice on choosing an island...

My wife and I (in our late 40s) would like to go to the Caribbean for a week at the beginning of July. We would love advice to find a place that has the following:
1. A hotel on that beach that has snorkeling (we want to walk out of the hotel and be on the beach). We are just very beginner snorkelers so as long as the hotel beach has some interesting underwater fish it is fine (we do not need a large range or the most exotic sea life).
2. We also would love a place that is not too crowded (night life is not our thing) but has some cultural (a museum, town to visit, nature sites, etc...).
We visited Curacao last year and found it to be perfect (hotel on beach with snorkeling, interesting city (things to see but not very touristy). We would love suggestions for a place to go this summer. We appreciate the help of anyone who has more travel experience and willing to share insights!

If your budget allows, Caneel Bay on St John would be a good fit. Excellent walk-in snorkeling.

St John Festival is the first of July. It will not be quiet and uncrowded then. That is one time of the year that St Thomas has the edge for uncrowded. LOL

Look at Providenciales in Turks and Caicos. WINDSONG resort is just next door to CORAL GARDENS, one of Provo's walk-in snorkeling spots.

WEST BAY CLUB is also close to Coral Gardens, and within walking distance to another snorkeling spot in the opposite direction.

WEST BAY has a wider, more uncrowded beach than what's in front of WINDSONG, so it all depends what you like.

Provo is quiet, but has some gorgeous beaches all around the island ( TAYLOR BAY) and some excellent restaurants. Not much shopping or historic sites.
