Viking River Cruise--Portugal

Does anyone have experience on their Portuguese River of Gold cruise? I'm booked for this Oct 2015. Also, curious about extensions. Any information appreciated.

You don't need an extension. After touring Porto, rent a car and head south, tour central,PT, ending in Lisbon. It's a wonderful little country.

lakebluffer - have you checked on cruisecritic? - there's some information on that cruise on that forum. I'm doing it in July 2015. I'll post some info on our cruise when we get back if you want to check back next summer.

Thanks, Leslie_S... I forgot to look at cruise critic. And, yes, of course I'd appreciate your thoughts after your trip.

My mom just got back from that cruise. She really enjoyed it. Interesting sites, lovely views from the river. I don't think she did an extension. She liked the boat, and their room was very spacious.

TY, china_cat -- glad to hear she had an enjoyable cruise. I doubt that I'll be saying the same about our cabin. My friend and I didn't request an upgrade immediately and by the time we did only the "penthouse" suites were available, for a $3,000 add-on!!!
The cabin we're to have is the next to the lowest.
I'm hoping we'll be able to take our nightcaps to some sitting area on deck or a lounge.

Mom said they don't spend much time in the cabin anyways. Days are filled with touring and evenings they spend in the restaurant or bar and the deck.

She brought me a bottle of Sandeman port from the port tasting in Porto. Yum!

If you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to ask her about it.
