Friday Night Parking—Boston

Boston Fodorites,

I'll be going to the Faneuil Hall/Government Center area on Friday night (arriving around 7:30 or 8:00 PM).

I've checked http://boston.bestparking.com for prices but don't know which garages are most likely to have spaces at that time.

Any suggestions?

(Unfortunately, I will need to drive down there. Taking the T in isn't really an option this time.)

Thanks for your help!

Post Office Square is about two blocks beyond the distance that casual suburbanites are likely to look for parking, so my experience is that it is a great place for knowledgeable people to go.

The Aquarium Garage is the worst.

You have a lot of options there, I think I'd want to narrow location down even more. I've parked in the two garages at Quincy Market (both shown as at the intersection of Congress and New Sudbury Streets), the Pi Alley Garage on Washington Street and the Center Plaza Garage (Laz parking on Cambridge Street) without issue. Those should all be relatively empty at that time, now that the Garden's sporting events are over (unless there's a concert there instead).

PO Square garage is fine, but depending on where exactly you're going to be and when you're getting out, a longish not so populated walk back.

I'd avoid the Dock Square (at the Aquarium end of Faneuil Hall) garage as I know a friend who's had her windshield bashed in twice there.

amyb, Pi Alley or ICON on Devonshire would work. Center Plaza and Quincy Market (Congress/New Sudbury) seem a little far.

Ackislander, PO Square at Congress & Pearl would be OK, too. It is cheaper than PO Square at Oliver & Pearl. Which is the PO Square garage you recommended?

For that matter, LAZ on India Street or Pilgrim on Well Street or One Federal would all work, too.

(You will laugh, but I thought PO Square was the post office at 25 Dorchester, near South Station, and I couldn't figure out why it was so highly recommended!).

Here's an update.

We ended up having to move Friday night plans to Saturday night. Since we already had Saturday day plans in Boston, we went down to the PO Square area to park for the day and saw that the garage at 225 Franklin had a sign advertising $8 weekend parking (cheaper than any rate I had seen online).

So that worked out very well. Thanks again for the suggestion, Ackislander.
