Gospel in Harlem by our own

We are already in Manhattan until next Sunday. Would like to see a church service with gospel somewhere in Harlem but not with crowded guided tour. Where could we go? Only on Sunday or even Saturday? where can I find their service schedule?

Yes, gospel music and songs. We did it with a tour 20 years ago and was great but this time we would like to go by our own taking our 2 kids aged 12 and 18 before we fly back home on sunday afternoon.

Some churches allow independent tourists. Most services are around 11 and last a couple of hours. You're expected to dress appropriately (people dress up) and stay for the full service, not just for the music. Abyssinian Baptist, for example, allows tourists. But parishioners take church very seriously, and not all churches welcome visitors. But I'm afraid I can't help more than that.

thanks ! I checked Abyssinian has a service at 11, Memorial Baptist Church at 8 and 11 and it looks they allow groups of tourists. Yes we would stay for the 2 hours, not just for the music. I will check further, as having our flight at 3pm from JFK, far far away, we have to pick a 8am service, 11 would be too late. thanks a lot again !

Do note the need to dress appropriately - jeans and sneakers will not do it at these churches.

My friends visited Brooklyn Tabernacle last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.
