Port Lympne vs. Howletts?

Port Lympne vs. Howletts?
Which one of the two do you recommend if we only had time for one? I know Howlett's is smaller 90 acres vs. 600 acres for Port Lympne. Which have you been and which in your opinion is the better of the two for viewing animals, pleasant surroundings, types of animals cared for etc.?
I read that Howlett's and Port Lympne just lost three elephants back in April--how sad. They are supposed to have a very large African elephant herd at Howlett's.
Which place has the larger gorilla population?
Does it make sense to pair Howlett's with a trip to Canterbury or possibly Port Lympne with Dover Castle? Or do the animal parks deserve full days for themselves?

I have been to Howletts. I went last year with my SIL who lives near Faversham. We spent nearly all day there. It was enjoyable enough, but it was hard to see some of the animals.
An internet friend and fellow photographer prefers Port Lympne as the animals are easier to see. There are different species at each place, so you should check if they have the animals you are interested in. The gorillas at Howletts are in cages behind bars.

From what hetismij says, I'd probably recommend Port Lympne. As I posted on one of your other threads I haven't been to Howlett's but just the gorilla experience at Port Lympne is worth the visit.

Certainly don't want to see the gorillas in cages behind bars--that would be depressing. At the Bronx Zoo in New York, they have the Congo Gorilla Forest where the humans are in a "walk through cage" with plenty of windows and the gorillas are "free" to roam around a very vast enclosure more closely resembling their natural habitat. The humans have plenty of close up vantage points to view the gorillas. The gorillas can forage for food from the trees and you can watch them eat, play, sleep and make fun of the humans--which they do.
So if at Port Lympne the animals have more of a natural habitat then that does sound like the better choice. Some people complain about the tram though. They say you are no longer allowed to walk certain paths and are forced to take the tram.
If we were to skip Deal and Walmer due to time constraints--just can't pack it all in with limited time, is it feasible to do Dover and Port Lympne in one day? Or is that nuts to do?
I seem to recall Texasbookworm going from Dover to Rye to Battle on the same day?
