looking for private transport and tour of pompeii from florence
HI, I Guess my topic title says it all. I am looking for a private tour from Florence to Pompeii and Mt Virsuvious, (sp?) Don't know if there is such a thing, but hoping. Thanks!

This is not typically done from Florence, since travel time approaches 5 hours in each direction, so 10 hours travel leaving very little time for touring. However, if you will be in Rome, there are a number of companies that offer Pompeii daytours.

I think from Rome is a much better idea. We've had fabulous experiences with Context Travel (http://www.contexttravel.com) and they do have trips from Rome (http://www.contexttravel.com/city/ro...sion-from-rome)

Do you have a map of Italy. Strongly suggest you get one and study it before planning an y trip there.
Florence is way too far from florence to do Pompei as a day tip. It's even a very long day trip from rome - and recommend only to those that don't mind an exhasuting train trip.
A private trip from Florence would involve you staying at a hotel overnight there - and paying for the driver/guide's hotel and meals as well as the many hundreds of euros for the trip itself.
(I'm always surprised at people who request long-term private guides - and wonder if they are wealthy enough that they don;t mind spending $1000 a day or more for it - or they just don't have a clue as to the cost.)

Just want to thank those of you that responded to my question. We had a great time and mostly stayed in Florence. We took the high speed train to Rome one day. After reading the comments here, we decided that pompeii will have to wait for another trip. This was our first trip to Europe and definitely not our last. DH likes beach vacations, but this might have changed his mind. Thanks again!
