San Diego in Mid March... Spring Break Nightmare????

We are looking to take a vacation to San Diego in Mid-March for 5-6 days. While we are not homebodies, we are not 22 year old college students either. Does San Diego typically draw a large spring break crowd or is it no different than other times of the year? This has us concerned. We do not mind crowds, after all, we are going as tourists also, but the spring break-college crowd is not what we really have in mind. Any help would be appreciated!!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I took my 12 year old daughter there for a mother/daughter trip in mid-March 2010. It wasn't a busy time at all. We didn't see any college spring breakers at all, although we might not have visited the areas they would gravitate to. We had a great time and I think you would too. Here is a link to my report if you're interested:

I wouldn't worry about it. There are spring breakers in SD, but it isn't the type of spring break crowd that gets featured on Girls Gone Wild or even on MTV. Not like the Florida Panhandle and places like that. A lot of it is probably because March on the CA coast can be chilly and the water is cold.

SD doesn't get much rain in any month, even in the winter, so you are probably safe. We were there once in February during a big storm (big storm being a relative term) - and while it did rain some, we still were able to put the top down on the convertible most of the time. Most of our pictures from that trip show us in shorts and sandals.

Hope you have a great time! San Diego is my favorite place in Southern California.
