Meters are free on Sundays, although all other parking restrictions apply (2 hour parking, etc.) If you want to avoid driving around looking for a spot, you can park at the Boston Common garage for $11.

Meters are free on Sundays if you can find one. We usually have good luck if we arrive early (before 10AM) but if you're going tomorrow it might be extra busy.

wyatt, I didn't know that other parking restrictions apply (2hr etc).
How would the meter attendant know you'd been there longer than 2 hrs if there's no meter running?

wyatt, really? I've never abided by the 2hr rule on Sundays/holidays. Never got a ticket. (I thought the meter persons have Sundays off, no?)

Anyway, agree that you should try to get in early on Sunday to secure a parking spot at a meter. Also, there are frequently events going on (benefit walks, free concerts etc) on Sundays in the warmer months, so there may be road closures and route diversions.

Edit to add: looking at City of Boston website:

Under #11
11. Be Advised: Meter Parking on Sundays and Holidays is Free
City of Boston parking meters are free on Sundays and legal holidays* and no time limit is enforced. All other parking regulations, including rush hour restrictions at meters, remain in effect.

*It is important to note that this applies only to the day that the actual holiday falls on, not to the day that offices may be closed in celebration of the holiday. For example, if New Year's Day is Saturday but offices are closed on Friday in recognition of the holiday, parking meters will be in operation on Friday but not on Saturday.
