Fodor's Review

As upscale as it gets in Arequipa, this is the place to go for top-of-the-line amenities and original design. The city's former coin mint, a national historical monument, became this midsize hotel in 2008 after an extensive renovation to a long-decrepit building. Colonial suites are as atmospheric as those at the much more expensive Hotel Monasterio in Cusco. Massive rooms, with arched stone walls, are resplendent with oil paintings and period furnishings, and the modern amenities barely alter the vibe. The modern section of the hotel has rooms and suites featuring Andean weaves, newfangled furniture, plush modern bedding, and elegant fixtures. Many rooms have romantic views of the city. Two colonial courtyards beg for a night walk. The gourmet restaurant serves creative novo cuisine in its hip dining area and there's a coin museum in honor of the building's history.
