Salta is a young and lively city, with a bar district along a few blocks of Balcarce Street that can get quite busy. Clubs, restaurants, and peñas attract both locals and tourists, who come to hear regional folk bands perform on small, cramped stages. Adding to the rowdy, dinner-theater atmosphere are the local gaucho dancers who entice (and often entrap) foreigners into strutting their stuff on stage; it's always a good laugh, no matter what language you speak.
