Club Eros

Club Eros Review

A basic dining room attached to an old soccer club, Club Eros has developed a cult following for its downscale charm. The excellent fare at rock-bottom prices have begun to draw young Palermo trendies as well as older customers who have been loyal to the club for decades. There's no menu, but you can confidently order a crispy milanesa (breaded meat cutlet), or, if available, a bife de chorizo and fries. Pasta sauces fall flat, but the flan con dulce de leche is one of the best (and biggest) in town.

If you want to avoid the risk of eating at a tourist trap, this is the place for you. Housed in a community center/gymnasium (while waiting for my table I watched soccer practice and tango lessons), the atmosphere feels like a spaghetti dinner at the local volunteer fire house, if the firehouse were in Italy. The antithesis of fancy, but great home style food at unbelievably low prices. I had a very basic salad, a delicious steak, veggie and fabulous cheese stuffed pasta with red sauce, a split of red wine and dessert for under $10! Aside from the food the best part was watching the people - a wide mix of everything from kids through great grandparents. Staff spoke sufficient English to let any gringo order and the service was warm and friendly.

The food is good, like at home. People are friendly, mostly from the neighbourhood. Ideal if you are looking for a picturesque place far away from the fancy restaurants all over Palermo.
