FareStart

FareStart Review

A project of the nationally lauded FareStart job-training program, this eatery in a sleek, dramatic space on Virginia Street serves an American-style lunch of sandwiches, burgers, mac-and-cheese, and fries during the week, as well as rotating specials. The kitchen is staffed by formerly homeless men and women (the servers are not) and the spirit of community outreach runs deep. Reservations are essential for the $29.95 Thursday dinners, prepared by a guest chef from an impressive rotating roster of local restaurants, such as Sitka & Spruce, Volunteer Park Café, or the Metropolitan Grill. The cuisine changes with the chef and therefore can be hit-or-miss. However, it's a grand experience for a good cause in a lovely Downtown space.
