Ski Area

Smugglers' Notch. The "granddaddy of all family resorts," Smugglers' Notch (or "Smuggs") receives consistent praise for its family programs. Its children's ski school is one of the best in the country—possibly the best—and there are challenges for skiers of all levels, spread over three separate areas. There's ice-skating, tubing, seven terrain parks, Nordic skiing, snowshoe trails, and a snowboarding area for kids ages 2½–6. Summer brings waterslides, treetop courses, ziplines, and crafts workshops—in other words, something for everyone. Facilities: 78 trails; 300 acres; 2,610-foot vertical drop; 8 lifts. 4323 Rte. 108 S, Jeffersonville, Vermont, 05464-9537. 802/332–6854; 800/419–4615; www.smuggs.com. Lift ticket: $79.
