Hell's Backbone Road. This mountain-bike ride follows the 44-mi Hell's Backbone Road from Panguitch to the Escalante region and beyond. The route, also known as Highway 12, gives riders stunning views and a half dozen kitschy townships as a reward for the steep grades. The road begins 7 mi south of Panguitch.
