Fodor's Review

Located just west of downtown Salt Lake, Gateway is an all-in-one family destination with shopping, dining, movie theaters, museums, and a music venue. In summer, cool off in the Olympic Legacy Plaza, a choreographed fountain that sprays pillars of water in sync with the 2002 Olympic theme and other inspiring music. Two parking lots make access easy. The Clark Planetarium, Discovery Gateway children's museum, the Depot (a live-music venue), and a 12-screen movie complex

are four of the draws to this mall, which is also across the street from EnergySolutions Arena.

It's a big outdoor mall

Basically just a big outdoor mall, with lots of typical shops, so-so chain type restaurants, and a fountain for kids to play in. Unlike Trolley Square, it's at least easy to reach via Trax and has a lot of foot traffic.

Historic Train Station turned Olympic Plaza

Hip little street lined with stores, acnhored on one end by a mid-to-upscale food court and the other by a park with lighted fountains and year-round bonfires, with a historic train depot open to the public to boot. If only the selection of stores didn't look so much like that of every mall in America, it would be downright charming. Still worth a walk-through for anyone.
