The Sisters of Divine Providence, an order from France, were the first residents of this 1873 convent. Later it was used as a school and today ministers to people from many walks of life. The tiny original St. Louis Catholic Church (Houston Sq. 830/538-3142. Free. Daily 9-5) stands on the grounds. You can hear a recorded account of the history of this 1868 Gothic-style church.
