Fodor's Expert Review Jacksonville Museum

Jacksonville Family

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Set inside the old Jackson County Courthouse, this repository of regional memorabilia has intriguing gold rush–era artifacts. The Jacksonville! Boomtown to Home Town exhibit lays out the area's history. Inside the 1920 Jackson County Jail, the Children's Museum has hands-on exhibits of pioneer life and a collection of antique toys, and is open by appointment. A special display highlights local resident Pinto Colvig, the original Bozo the Clown, who co-composed "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" and was the voice of a Munchkin, Goofy, both Sleepy and Grumpy, and many other animated film characters.
