Portland's other critically acclaimed ice-cream shop (Salt & Straw tends to get far more attention), Ruby Jewel started in 2004 with ice-cream sandwiches in unusual flavors, such as lemon cookie with honey-lavender ice cream and cinnamon-chocolate cookie stuffed with espresso ice cream. Ruby Jewel's five cafés, including this central one in Downtown's West End, also dole out cones and dishes of ice cream with flavors like caramel with salted dark chocolate and chèvre with Pinot-grape swirl.
