Redmond’s new sit-down vegetarian restaurant may seem like an odd addition in a community known for its cattle ranching, but it’s been making a splash with locals and visitors alike with its plant-filled dining room and its beautifully presented plates and cocktails. The menu changes seasonally and relies heavily on produce sourced from Central Oregon farms.
A pair of ponderosa pine trees actually grow through the back dining room in this downtown landmark, which two venturesome women opened in the height of the Great Depression. As the longest-operating restaurant in the city, it keeps old-timers coming back for what hasn’t changed: the focus on traditional American cooking and the warm scones with honey butter.
The blended menu of Northwest specialties and Cajun influences has made this elegant but welcoming restaurant (named after a style of Creole music) a popular lunch and dinner spot for more than a decade.
