Getting to and from the park is relatively easy due to its close proximity to Medora, as well as exceptional signage. The South Unit entrance and visitor center is just off Interstate 94 in Medora at exits 24 and 27. The Painted Canyon Visitor Center is 7 miles east of Medora on Interstate 94 at exit 32. The North Unit entrance is south of Watford City on U.S. 85. Bus transportation is available along Interstate 94, with a stop in Medora that is only three blocks from the park entrance.

There's ample parking space at all trailheads, and parking is free. Some roads are closed in winter. You may encounter bison and other wildlife on the roadway.
