In a century-old farmhouse in an old apple orchard, The Orchard is the best restaurant in Cashiers, putting a Southern twist on traditional American dishes. Start with the goat cheese antipasto, crab cakes, or fried green tomato appetizers; for an entrée you can't go wrong with the mountain trout, served four different ways, or the pork tenderloin. The decor is comfortable rather than fancy, with some kitchy Southern touches such as an old Mail Pouch chewing tobacco sign. Note that prices are higher than you'd expect for a small town, but this is Cashiers. Reservations are a good idea in-season.
