Fodor's Review

Built in 1875 and featuring unusual details such as wormy chestnut woodwork, this two-story restored country farmhous occupies 11 wooded acres in a quiet area west of downtown. The building once housed the law offices of Captain Edward Francis Lovill, a founding trustee of what became Appalachian State University. On the grounds are a picnic area, gardens, and a stream with a waterfall. Some rooms have antique iron bedsteads or sleigh beds and fireplaces.
