Tropicana Las Vegas
Fodor's Finds Hotels
Book NowTropicana Las Vegas Review
Considering it was one of the original Strip casinos (dating back more than 50 years), the "Trop," was desperate for the exhaustive multi-billion renovation it had in 2010 and 2011. And what an overhaul it was. Today, rooms are some of the most spacious in town, and feature furniture with decidedly South Beach, Miami, style. The casino, bathed in white, is small but intimate, with a rollicking sports book. The Nikki Beach Las Vegas pool complex (and swanky Cafe Nikki for light bites) is a breezy place for a dip. Perhaps the biggest draw at the new-and-improved Tropicana is the Las Vegas Mob Experience, a museum dedicated to Sin City history. Pros : Nikki Beach; swim-up blackjack, easy-breezy style Cons : casino still tiny; very easy to get lost inside.

We had a great experience here. We purchased a discounted rate of 54.00 a night on vegas.com but when we arrived, a really nice lady explained that the room we purchased at a discount would be in the 3 story "motel-like" buildings and not the towers, but for 10.00 extra per night, we could upgrade. We agreed to the upgrade and we were placed on the highest floor with a strip view and it was beautiful. We had a view of New York New York and the Luxor, MGM and Excaliber. At night, it lit up like, well, like Las Vegas. The hotel room was very clean and it was HUGE! It had a great King-sized bed and mirrors on the ceiling which I must say, came in handy. The tub was a two-person tub with endless hot water. The staff was polite and friendly. The casino was run-of-the-mill but my husband and I are not gamblers, so we didn't care. I gambled one dollare while waiting for cofee and the machine spit out 52.00 in one click, so I was happy. The hotel is centrally located and we visited all the above hotels and casinos as well as Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Alladin - all within walking distance. The morning buffet was quite passable. We were able to eat healthy there and that was what I was looking for for breakfast. we did not have any other meals there except take-out desert one night while jonesing for something sweet. Overall, a really great value for the money!
