Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park is a great place for experienced outdoor adventurers. The closest outdoor store is an hour away in Ely, so bring everything you might need, and be prepared to go it alone. Permits are not required to go off the beaten path, but if you're planning a multiday hike, register with a ranger just in case. The effort is worth it, as the backcountry is pristine and not at all crowded, no matter the time of year. As is the case in all national parks, bicycling is restricted to existing roads, which can get busy with cars, especially Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive. Always be cautious, and consider biking on less popular roads.
