About the Hotels

Lodging options in Minnesota’s small towns may vary in size and scope—from towering Victorian homes to squat motels—but their common denominator is the kind innkeepers. More often than not, the person running the inn has a number of passions, including a love for preserving the town’s history. Many historic properties do not offer air-conditioning, but that isn’t a problem, as a hot, sticky spell during summer never lasts long. Heating is a must thanks to tough winters (but this is also prime time ski season in some parts of the state). Some hotels, particularly in resort areas and far northern regions, are only open from mid-spring to late fall.
