Boston Common Coffee Company, with locations in the North End, Financial District, and Downtown Crossing, is an independent that's more Starbucks than Italian café. It has comfy couches, a roaring fireplace in winter, free wireless Internet, and a host of soups, sandwiches, and baked goods for sampling. It's one of the few cafés in the neighborhood where you can get a nonespresso cup of joe.
