Here's the kind of undeniably friendly, downright cute hole-in-the-wall that keeps the neighborhood real. With seating for 40, Carmen keeps its capacity crowds happy with glasses of wine and small tapas-style plates of roasted red pepper and olives at the up-front bar. At tables, meanwhile, diners tuck into clean-flavored specials such as creamy homemade pappardelle with lamb ragu. Desserts and coffee, however, aren't on the menu.

One of the North End's better Italian places. Very tiny place that redefines cozy. Food's good and so is the service.
