Nuuanu
Immediately mauka of Kalihi, off Pali Highway, are a renowned resting place and a carefully preserved home where royal families retreated during the doldrums of summer. Nuuanu Pali was the sight of a famous battle that was key to King Kamehameha I’s success in uniting all the Hawaiian Islands under his rule and becoming the Islands’ first monarch. Nuuanu Valley is known for its lush, quiet beauty and has several notable cemeteries, churches, and embassies.
