Planning Your Time

Although Georgia's coastal islands are along a strip of coastline that is less than 60 miles long, each has a different feel, and a visit to any of them requires at least a day. The complications of ferries to Sapelo or Cumberland make it difficult to visit either of those in less than a day, and these visits must generally be planned far in advance. It's possible to base yourself on busy St. Simons Island (or any of the Golden Isles for that matter) and visit much of the region on a series of day trips. The Okefenokee is a bit farther out of the way but can be visited on a day trip from almost any of the islands; if you have more time, it can be an overnight trip.
