Poet Raymond Farr, in his "Back Roads to Macon," writes of a cozy roadside diner, the sprawling farmland, and a folksy bit of wisdom scrawled on a mailbox in the nearby town of Cordele: "Whatever your destination, thank God you arrive." These kinds of small touches add charm to the back roads to Macon. Or, for a speedier and somewhat less scenic route, jump on U.S. 441.
