Why We Like It

If your destination is the Orange County Convention Center, this is only a couple of minutes drive away, and Universal and CityWalk, Pointe Orlando and I-Drive 360 entertainment aren't that much further, so the location is excellent. The amenities are fairly basic, but that is offset by the freebies: no resort fee, free parking, free Wi-Fi, and free breakfast.

Fodor's Expert Review

Youngish, high-tech-consuming business travelers and vacationing families find value here because of the location and amenities, such as 42-inch flat-panel HDTVs, work areas with computer access panel, wet bar with minifridge and heated pool. While it's three blocks from the Convention Center, it's also just a block from Pointe Orlando, a restaurant, movie theater, and shopping complex, and it's near the new shopping and entertainment area at the Orlando Eye. Like other Hyatt Places, this one is hooked into the 24/7 lifestyle, with a computer touch screen in the lobby restaurant from which you can order food at all hours (kitchen staff is always on duty) and a 24-hour fitness center.

You Should Know No kids programs or baby-sitting services. Though the address of the hotel is International Drive, the sign is very small and hard to see, because it indicates a driveway that leads to the hotel, whose main parking entrance is on Universal Blvd.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel offers no theme-park shuttles and it's too far to walk to the Convention Center, but the I-Ride Trolley offers reasonably priced transportation up and down International Drive, as does the public bus system, Lynx (bus stops are marked with a sign with a lynx paw). Taxis and ride-share services are readily available. If you have your own car, or a rental, parking is free at the hotel, but there's a $20 fee to park at Universal, unless you go after 6pm, when it's free.

Restaurants

Pointe Orlando (5-minute drive) is home to dozens of restaurants, including The OceanAir Seafood Room, where seafood is king; Capital Grille, a classic chop and steakhouse; the atmospheric Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar. Farther along I-Drive, The Boston Lobster Feast (8-minute drive) is exactly what its name implies, an all you can eat seafood feast, including lobster. Look for the giant, red lobster consuming a small car. Shake Shack (10-minute drive) is a popular American burger spot. I-Drive offers dozens of chain eateries serving everything from burgers to pizza to tacos to American home-style comfort food.

Bars

International Drive offers more places to down a pint or sip tequila than you could visit in a week, and best of all you don't have to drive, as the I-Ride Trolley or ride-sharing services are available. Hooter's I-Drive, Senor Frog's and TGI Fridays are only steps away from the hotel. For an evening of Latin dancing, live revue shows, and creative cocktails, check out Mango’s, (5-minute drive).
