The second-oldest marine-mammal center in the world, Theater of the Sea doesn't attempt to compete with more modern, more expensive parks. Even so, it's among the better attractions north of Key West, especially if you have kids in tow. Like the pricier parks, there are dolphin, sea lion, and stingray encounters ($55-$175, including general admission) where you can get up close and personal with underwater creatures. These are popular, so reserve in advance. Ride a "bottomless" boat to see what's below the waves or take a guided tour of the marine-life exhibits. Entertaining educational shows highlight conservation issues. You can stop for lunch at the grill, shop in the boutique, or sunbathe at a lagoon-side beach. This easily could be an all-day attraction.

The animal encounters are great, but even if you aren't doing them there are plenty of things to do! The shows are nice, and there is a beach filled with tropical fish, such as parrotfish, barracuda, and manta rays that you can swim in!
