This handsome lodgepole-pine structure on the Tonahutu River dates to 1915. The seven lodge rooms—each with ceiling fan—are done in the Rocky Mountain rustic style with a mix of antique furnishings such as claw-foot tubs and carved-hardwood beds. The innkeepers also rent condos for large groups or families. The delightful Rapids Restaurant ($$$$) is Grand Lake's most romantic for fine dining, with stained glass and timber beams. Select a cocktail from the excellent wine list and enjoy it creekside before dinner. The specialty is Rapids' tournedo—an 8-ounce filet mignon with artichokes and béarnaise sauce. Pros: in-house restaurant, condos are great for longer stays, quiet area of town. Cons: unpaved parking area, hotel rooms are above restaurant.
