If the small Colorado town of Hugo sees a spike in Bagel Bites sales and Phish t-shirt orders in the next couple of weeks, we’ll know why. Officials warned the residents of the small town not to drink, cook, or even shower with the town’s water after discovering one of the nearby wells had been tampered with and tested positive for THC, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana.
Though officials urged residents not to use their tap water, former EPA scientist Joseph Evans stated drinking the town’s water is highly unlikely to create any kind of health hazard. While many of the residents were worried about the contamination, some had a more lighthearted reaction. Former mayor Patsie Smith joked, “I might have to go drink some water.”
