Golf

Temecula has several championship golf courses cooled by the valley's ocean breezes.

Redhawk Golf Club. Considered one of the best 18-hole public golf courses in California, the Ron Fream–designed championship golf course is designed to take advantage of Temecula's tree-studded rolling hills set against craggy mountains. Watch out for wind, doglegs, skinny sand traps, and tiered greens. Rico's Cantina here offers Mexican and Southwestern items for breakfast and lunch. 45100 Redhawk Pkwy., Temecula, California, 92592. 951/302–3850; www.redhawkgolfcourse.com. $44–$62.

Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort. Ted Robinson and Dick Rossen designed this Wine Country resort's three picturesque nine-hole courses. Stonehouse, the most challenging one, demands precise tee shots. 44501 Rainbow Canyon Rd., Temecula, California, 95292. 951/676–2405; www.temeculacreekinn.com. $80 weekdays; $100 weekends.

The Legends Golf Club. The tiered greens, five lakes, and many blind spots make for challenging rounds at this club's Ted Robinson–designed championship course. 41687 Temeku Dr., Temecula, California, 92591. 951/694–9998; thelegendsgc.com. $49–$65.
