Fodor's Review:

A dive bar in the best sense, El Rio has a calendar chock full of events, from free bands and films to Salsa Sunday (seasonal), that keep Mission kids coming back. Bands play several nights a week -- Tuesday is generally free, Saturday brings the "big acts" ($8 cover), which are still relatively unknown local bands. No matter what day you attend, expect to find a diverse gay-straight crowd. The large patio out back is especially popular when the weather's warm.
