Talia Salem

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Talia Salem has more than a dozen years of experience in journalism, destination marketing, and content strategy. She runs her own marketing and tourism consulting firm, The Urban Nomad, which helps travel organizations connect with diverse target audiences through compelling content, excel at destination marketing, and leverage sustainable tourism. She previously worked as Manager of Social & Content for Brand USA, the USA’s official destination marketing organization and public-private partnership dedicated to increasing international visitation to the United States. During her tenure, Talia directed the global content strategy for the brand’s 15-country digital presence. She also managed the launch of Brand USA's new consumer websites VistTheUSA.com in seven languages and shaped the visual and content strategy. She launched the multichannel content and influencer campaign Great American Road Trips and was instrumental in the launches of the Flavors of the USA and Great Outdoors campaigns. She also taught Digital Marketing and Distribution in Georgetown’s Masters in Global Hospitality Leadership Program. Before Brand USA, Talia worked as a travel journalist and consulted for various tourism organizations. She was the managing editor of Smart Meetings magazine, where she covered the North American travel and meetings industries. She has also written for San Francisco magazine, the San Francisco Examiner and VisitTheUSA.com. Talia has lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Paris and the French countryside. Talia is fluent in English, French, and Arabic, and is currently learning Spanish. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and French from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), as well as a Master’s degree in Sustainable Tourism Destination Management from The George Washington University. Talia’s work has been recognized by various organizations, and she was awarded George Washington University’s Master of Tourism Administration Outstanding Alumni Award in 2019.
