Aviation, nuclear science, robotics, astronomy, space technology, and Internet technology are entertainingly explored through audiovisual and interactive exhibits housed in the 14 galleries here. You can walk into a "human body" for a closer look at vital organs, test yourself via computer quiz games, or settle into the Omni Theatre, where movies and planetarium shows are screened. Other fascinating exhibitions include the Ecogarden, a living laboratory of flora and fauna in natural habitats, and "Climate Changed," which shows what life will be like if global warming continues—and what we can do to prevent it.

Yunnan Garden

Jurong West Fodor's choice

This heritage garden is on the grounds of the Nanyang Technological University; it's a little out of the way but certainly worth a visit. The grounds are well-maintained, and there are plenty of scenic photo spots, including a cascading waterfall, a small lake, and Chinese gates and pagodas. There are multiple trails to choose from, so you can wander across the boardwalks to explore the whole park. Try to visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.

Jurong Lake Gardens

Jurong East

Sprawled across 220 acres and encompassing the sites of Lakeside, as well as its Chinese and Japanese gardens, Jurong Lake Gardens is one of Singapore’s largest green spaces. The popular escape for residents in the west offers a range of activities and wildlife-watching spots among its wetlands, eco ponds, freshwater swamps, and open fields. Other than appreciating the natural space, visitors can rent kayaks and pedal boats at PAssion WaVe on Jurong Lake, or swim in the only swimming pool in a national garden at ActiveSG Park. An iconic sculpture known as Lone Tree, surrounded by Chinese Fountain Grass,  is a popular photo spot.

Raffles Marina Lighthouse

Tuas

Also known as Johor Straits lighthouse, this picturesque lighthouse is free to visit and has a fantastic view across the straits to Malaysia. You’ll need to travel to the end of the East–West (green) MRT line to visit, but the sunset over the water will make the journey worth it. The marina has a few eating and drinking options, but note you can’t bring outside food or drink to the lighthouse.

Singapore Discovery Centre

Jurong West

This world-class children's center makes education entertaining through a large number of multimedia attractions that aim to engage the senses via demonstrations and digital animation, including 3D films and 4D simulations. There is a focus on the history and growth of Singapore as a state through multimedia permanent exhibitions, plus plenty more activities for older kids with paintball and laser tag. There are guided tours of the permanent exhibitions that can be booked each day; ask at reception for more details and timings.

Snow City

Jurong East

Snow is a novelty when you live in a country where it's tropical all year-round. Locals endure freezing temperatures for a rare chance to touch and play in real snow at the only permanent indoor snow center in Singapore. Although it's geared more toward locals, it's a fun way to spend some time if you're not used to experiencing freezing temperatures. Admission includes the use of winter jackets and boots.

Thwo Kwang Pottery Jungle

Jurong West
Part workshop, part education center, this family-run operation is home to some of Singapore's most beautiful pottery, which you can admire, buy, or even try making for yourself. The regularly scheduled workshops will have you rolling up your sleeves and turning clay into mugs, vases, and bowls. The center uses one of the oldest surviving brick-built kilns in Singapore, the Dragon Kiln, to create its intricate works of art.

Tiger Brewery

Tuas

Tiger Beer is one of Singapore's most iconic exports and the beer of choice of many bars and hawker centers across the island. You'll probably drink it (or at least see it) more than once on your trip, so why not visit where it is made? At the official Tiger Brewery, on the far west end of the island, you can take a one-hour guided tour of the facilities every afternoon to see how the brewing process works. At the end of the tour, cool off during the two-hour "beer appreciation session" as you drink one (or more) icy-cold Tiger beers at the Tiger Tavern. Don't forget to bring your ID or passport.
