Fodor's Expert Review Magnan
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Serving Montrealers since 1932, this tavern is best known for its roast beef. The meat marinates for 20 days and the result is so succulent, it keeps locals raving. This is also a great place to try the traditional French Canadian dish tourtière—a meat pie made with pork, veal, and/or beef—which is served with house-made ketchup here. Note that since this is a tavern, no children under 18 are allowed inside, so if you're out with the family, head to the take-out counter and order food to go. Since the restaurant is right on the Lachine Canal (which runs from Old Montréal to Lac St. Louis), it's the perfect spot to sit and enjoy your meal outdoors.
