Tatamagouche

Though it only has about a thousand residents, tiny Tatamagouche is a force to be reckoned with. Canada's second-largest Oktoberfest (800/895–1177 www.nsoktoberfest.ca)—a boisterous event complete with sausages, schnitzel, and frothy steins of beer—takes place here each fall. Summer brings strawberry and blueberry festivals, lobster, and chowder suppers. On the waterfront, Creamery Square is the hub of the town with a museum complex, a farmers' market, and a center for the arts with a small theater, which opened in 2015. Within a 10-minute drive of Tatamagouche you have the opportunity to visit two historic mills.
